A Verse to Read

Here is a verse I came across today. I encourage you to read it a few times and let it sink in.

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—I will think about such things. The things I have learned and received and heard and seen in those who walk with Christ, I will put it into practice, and You, O God of peace, will be with me.” – Philippians 4:8-9

Abounding in You

Frances

Avacado

I get the priviledge of working with the ladies that assemble the bulletins at my church. We call them the “bulletin stuffers”. I thank Christ for allowing me to get to know each one of them.

They show up every Friday, and usually finish stuffing 1500 bulletins in an hour. This is their ministry. Most of them are in their late 80s and early 90s, so imagine the wealth of knowledge and experience that is in the room when they get together. They share amazing stories about themselves and their families, and about the history of our church.

Sadly, one of the ladies passed away last Friday. Her name was Frances, and she was one of the most warm-hearted and spunky ladies I have ever known.

You might be wondering why there is a picture of an avocado in this post. Well, I took the picture. The avocado is sitting on my desk because Frances gave it to me two weeks ago (she always gave me avocados because she knew how much I love them). This one was too hard to eat at the time, so I thought I’d let it sit on my desk and ripen for a week. Well, now I look at it and think of Frances, and I reflect on the time we spent together. I thank Christ for her.

I always say, if there is one guy I could have pizza with, it’d be Brett Favre.

In case you’re wondering, Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play professional football…, he’s been my hero for the last 16 years. When I played sports in high school, I always picked #4 as my jersey number because of him.

ESPN reported today that Brett Favre has decided to retire from football. I knew it was coming, but I didn’t want to think about it. It’s not easy for me.

I think about the past 16 years, and what this guy has meant to me. One of my greatest memories was when my dad took me to Wisconsin for my birthday to see the Panthers play Favre and the Packers at Lambeau Field. My brothers and I have traveled to San Diego, San Francisco, Arizona and even Florida to watch him play. My mom would call me during the game to check on the score. My wife, who was never a football fan before we dated, became a Favre fan. She would even defend him if/when others would say anything negative about him. He brought my family closer, giving us something to cheer for together.

Thank Christ for you Brett! I pray God blesses you and you’re family during this major transition. And, if you ever read this… I know of a great pizza place here in Newport Beach, California. My treat!

It’s her birthday this month, so I took her to pick out her birthday present tonight… a new bike (it’s bubble gum pink)! I had to take a picture of her walking it out of the store.

An Adventure with My Dad

This weekend my dad and I went on an adventure… a 2 hour bike ride around Irvine. We don’t get to do stuff like this very often, and the bike path we went on was new to us. At one point the path was flooded, so we decided to get drenched and just plow through it. We also crossed over a cool bridge and then watched the train zoom by! Thank Christ for the time my dad and I spent together, and for the chance to see His amazing creation. Here are a few pictures from the ride…

Rest

Does Sleep Equal Rest?

It’s late, and I’m tired and drained…

My natural reaction is to just roll into bed and assume I’ll wake up refreshed. But, is this considered rest? Does sleeping equal rest? Not exactly. Not only is my body tired, my brain is exhausted. There are times in each day that I forget to look to God; times I lean on my own understanding – I’m continually trying to problem solve life on my own. As a result, I become drained. You might thing I’m crazy, but I thank Christ for being drained. When I’m drained, it’s easy for me to remember that my bed is not the answer.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” You see, this is the answer to finding rest. I can go to bed tonight knowing full well that God will direct my path if I simply remember to look to Him, rather than myself for all of the answers. I put my future in His hands. He is in control of my life. He knows me better than I know myself – He made me. How foolish I can be to forget that God cares about me this much.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

So, thank You Christ for directing my path, and for giving me the true rest I seek.

The Sun

The Sun

I was just thinking how the sun is always on schedule. It never takes a day off. Actually, to be specific, the sun is always shining. It’s always there. Earth just naturally turns its back on the sun every day (at night).

This reminds me of my relationship with God. God is always there. He’s always shining. Even though I try to focus on Him all day, I’m human and I fail. I naturally turn my back to Him at some point every day, and focus on other things that are not as important.

I thank Christ for His grace, and I thank Him for being there for us no matter what.

I’m Stuffed

I just ate a tastey lunch… I’m stuffed!

When was the last time you felt full after eating a meal? Was it yesterday? This morning after breakfast? Or, if you’re like me, was it after your late lunch today? Let’s not take that feeling for granted. Thank You Christ for providing us with food!
